Automotive-grade encapsulated alloy resistor (also known as automotive-grade alloy current-sensing / shunt resistor; “encapsulated” refers to the process of fully protecting the resistive core with high thermal conductivity epoxy or similar materials) is a core component for current detection in automotive electronics. It must pass the AEC-Q200 automotive qualification and comply with IATF16949 supply chain management requirements.
 

Core Definition and Structure

 
  • Materials:
     
    The resistive element is mostly made of alloys such as manganin, nichrome, and constantan (low temperature drift, high stability).
     
    The encapsulation uses high thermal conductivity epoxy resin for full coverage.
     
    The terminal electrodes are usually Ag-Pd alloy for sulfuration resistance.
     
    Some high-end models adopt 4-terminal (Kelvin connection) to improve sensing accuracy.
     
  • Process:
     
    Precision processing of alloy foil / sheet → laser trimming → encapsulation molding → terminal electrode plating → full inspection.
     
    Compared with bare alloy resistors, the encapsulated structure provides better moisture resistance, vibration resistance, corrosion resistance, and soldering consistency.
